Parents
Parenting is a most important, rewarding and responsible role despite the challenges, hardships and trials that are, unfortunately, almost an inevitable feature. Parents are the key people in a child’s life and as such have a major influence on all aspects of the child’s development.
One of the biggest rewards for children, from their earliest days, is their parents’ attention. Children need the attention of their parents and will seek it every way they can. This is a normal part of child development, and is a measure of the importance in children’s lives of the relationship with their parents.
The power and value of parental attention cannot be over emphasized especially in the early years. The phrase ”every childhood lasts a lifetime” (Barnardos) conveys how crucial these formative years are and how they are the foundation on which ones entire life is built. Children have only one childhood and we, as parents, must understand the powerful impact for good or ill we have on each and every life.
