Directory of Childcare Services in County Longford

Definitions:

FDC = Full Day Care

Full day care services offer care and education for children for more than 5 hours per day.

PDC = Part time Day Care

Full day care services offer care and education for children for more than 3.5 hours and less than 5 hours per day.

SS = Sessional Service

Sessional services offer care and education for children for up to 3.5 hours per day.

DI = Drop in service

They offer care to children while parents/guardians are attending an event or availing of a service within that establishment.

AS= Afterschool service

After school services provide extended day care for school aged children usually from Monday to Friday during the school term.

OS = Out of school service

Out of school services provide day care for school aged children while outside of school term.

Community Based Childcare

Generally run by voluntary management committee

Childminding

Childminders usually look after children in the minders home.

VN = Voluntary notified childminder

Childminders who care for 3 children or less are invited to voluntarily their service to Longford County Childcare Committee. These childminders receive an advisory visit to their home from the Childminding Advisory Officer of Longford County Childcare Committee.

NC = Notified childminder

Childminders who care for 4 or more children are legally required to notify to the HSE, they receive an inspection from the Pre-school Services 
Officer.
